WASHINGTON — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, trying to draw attention to his struggling presidential campaign, said Thursday that Donald Trump is “dangerous,” “a narcissist,” “an egomaniac,” “unserious” and a “gift” to the Democrats.

Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington D.C., Jindal also took aim at his rival over the New York businessman’s claim that the Bible is his favorite book.

“When asked, he couldn’t even name a specific or a single Bible verse that was important to him, that had an impact on him,” Jindal said. “Well, do you know why? It’s clear Donald Trump has never read the Bible. The reason we know he’s never read the Bible? He’s not in the Bible.”

Other Republican candidates have gone after Trump without much success. Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham have seen their poll numbers decline after provoking a fight with Trump.

On Thursday, Jindal said: “Folks, Donald Trump is not a serious person. This is a carnival act. These are serious times for our country.”

“The Democrats have practically gift wrapped this election for us,” he said. “The whole thing is set up for us to win, now we’re flirting with nominating a non-serious, unstable, substantive-free candidate. We cannot send this narcissist, we cannot nominate this egomaniac.”

Referencing Trump’s campaign slogan, Jindal said: “Nominating Donald Trump is a certain way for us to ruin our opportunity to make America Great Again.”

Making his speech the Thursday after Labor Day, Jindal added: “Look, the silly summer season is over, it’s time to get serious about saving our country. It’s time to send Donald Trump back to reality TV.”

According to the Real Clear Politics national polling average, Trump is leading the Republican field with 29.8 percent. Meanwhile, Jindal is in 14th place with just .3 percent.
