Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been insistent in her belief that 6 debates is enough  in the race to win her party’s nomination for president. It seems the Democratic Party base disagrees.

Former Maryland Governor and Democratic hopeful Martin O’Malley has been unequivocal in charging Wasserman Schultz with protecting frontrunner Hillary Clinton by severely limiting the number of debates. He was joined in his call for more debates by Vermont Senator and fellow candidate Bernie Sanders, who is currently leading in both Iowa and New Hampshire. Still, Wasserman Schultz has refused.

Clinton has even paid lip service to the concept of more debates, saying she’d welcome them, though she hasn’t actually called for them.

The grassroots Democratic base, however, is making their opinion known.

At a rally in New Hampshire, an unruly crowd shouted down the DNC Chair with chants of “We want debate!”

Wasserman Schultz, appearing to be taken off guard by the uprising, responded, “I’m ready to debate with you,” then quickly returning to her prepared remarks attacking GOP front-running Donald Trump.

“Just the other day, at a campaign event in Rochester,” she continued, “Trump was at it again. One of his supporters in the audience called President Obama a Muslim!”

The shouts did not stop, they only grew louder.

Wasserman Schultz was forced to address it again. “My friends, what’s more important?’ she asked, “Drawing a contrast with Republicans, or arguing about debates?” she asked.
