WASHINGTON — Asked about Speaker of the House John Boehner’s resignation, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson told The Daily Caller “it’s probably time for a change.”

In a brief interview before his appearance at the Values Voter Summit in Washington D.C., Carson said: “I’m very happy that he had a long and distinguished career, made significant contributions, tried very hard to do a good job. And it’s probably time for a change.”

Asked how he would assess Boehner’s tenure, Carson said: “I think he’s a go along to get along type of guy. That’s just his nature. We’re in a time, now, where you actually have to put a stake in the ground and sometimes you may not be super popular for doing that.”

Carson declined to list names of Republicans he would like to see replace Boehner: “I want to see the whole process play out, get a chance to hear everybody’s platform,” he said.
