Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed a question from a female reporter at a meeting with Secretary of State John Kerry Wednesday by telling her not to address a man while “on her knees.”

As Kerry was dismissing an inaudible question from the journalist, Lavrov interrupted.

“It is politically incorrect for a lady to address a gentleman on her knees,” he told the reporter, as he pointed to Kerry and laughed. Kerry clasped his hands together and stared in response.

The two then went behind closed doors to discuss the urgency for military talks in light of Russian military strikes in Syria Wednesday morning.

Lavrov’s joke followed an uncomfortable question from another reporter regarding the strikes.

“Who did the Russian military strike today?” another female reporter had asked Lavrov.

“Everything was said by the Russian minister of defense,” he replied. “Don’t listen to Pentagon about the Russian strikes.”
