Why Is The New York Times Worried About Black People Owning Guns Legally?

I’m not saying they’re a bunch of racists. I’m just pointing out what they’re doing.

Laurel Mercer, mother of Oregon shooter Chris Mercer, is black. And this is what Jack Healy, Mike McIntire, and Julie Turkewitz of the New York Times want you to know about her:

Oregon Killer’s Mother Wrote of Troubled Son and Gun Rights

Ms. Harper, who divorced her husband a decade ago, appears to have been by far the most significant figure in her son’s troubled life; neighbors say he rarely left their apartment. Unlike his father, who said on television that he had no idea Mr. Harper-Mercer cared so deeply about guns, his mother was well aware of his fascination. In fact, she shared it: In a series of online postings over a decade, Ms. Harper, a registered nurse, said she kept numerous firearms in her home and expressed pride in her knowledge about them, as well as in her son’s expertise on the subject…

In an online forum, answering a question about state gun laws several years ago, Ms. Harper took a jab at “lame states” that impose limits on keeping loaded firearms in the home, and noted that she had AR-15 and AK-47 semiautomatic rifles, along with a Glock handgun…

“I keep two full mags in my Glock case. And the ARs & AKs all have loaded mags,” Ms. Harper wrote. “No one will be ‘dropping’ by my house uninvited without acknowledgement.”

Why does the NYT have a problem with a black woman, raising her son alone, wanting to protect herself? Do they want to take away all black people’s guns, or just this black woman’s guns?

I believe that black people have the same rights as anybody else in the United States of America. I don’t think they should be punished for the actions of Chris Mercer. I’m disappointed to learn that the New York Times disagrees.

Black Lives Matter. Don’t leave them defenseless.
