Chuck Todd said “As secretary of state, she was firmly aligned with the [TPP] deal” Wednesday on MSNBC’s “MTP Daily.” (RELATED: Hillary Clinton Comes Out Against The Trans-Pacific Partnership)

Todd explained that “this is a huge departure from the Obama administration” and said when Hillary was secretary of state, she called the TPP the “gold standard for trade agreements.”

Chuck Todd: But let’s start with Hillary Clinton. In a big announcement late this afternoon, Hillary Clinton has just come out against the Transpacific Partnership Trade Agreement. She did so officially in an interview that will air later tonight on the “News Hour” on PBS.

Hillary Clinton: As of today, I am not in favor of what I have learned about it. And there’s one other element I want to make, because I think it’s important. Trade agreements don’t happen in a vacuum. And in order for us to have a competitive economy in the global marketplace, there are things we need to do here at home.

Todd: Of course this is a huge departure from the Obama administration. As secretary of state, she was firmly aligned with the deal. And in fact called the preliminary negotiations of TPP, the quote “gold standard for trade agreements.” Now she joins Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley on the Democratic side in opposition to this trade agreement. As for the Republicans, by the way if you’re keeping score, the field is split pretty on this deal. Donald Trump and Ben Carson have come out firmly against the deal. Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio are firmly for it. Carly Fiorina says she is still on the fence.
