UPDATE (11:51 a.m. EST, KCRA): Local police now claim the stabbing occurred around 12:45 a.m. Thursday morning. Stone was attempting to protect a friend in a fight.

Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, one of three Americans who heroically foiled the August French train attack, was stabbed multiple times in Sacramento late Wednesday night.

“He is alive and in stable condition at this time,” a spokesperson told NBC News. “We do not have any information as to the events preceding the incident.”

Back in August, an unarmed 25-year-old Stone — along with National Guard Specialist Alex Skarlatos and friend Anthony Sadler — rushed Moroccon-born Ayooub El-Khazaani after he opened fire on a train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris.

Stone was stabbed in the hand in the process and, along with his companions, was awarded a Purple Heart commending his courageous actions.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
