Dr. Ben Carson says a man inside a Baltimore restaurant once aimed a gun at him.

The Republican presidential candidate recounted the time he was at a Popeye’s in Baltimore: “[A] guy comes in, put the gun in my ribs, and I just said, ‘I believe that you want the guy behind the counter,'” he said Thursday on SirusXM’s “Karen Hunter Show.”

On Tuesday, Carson told Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” that if he faced down last week’s Oregon shooter, “Not only would I probably not cooperate with him, I would not just stand there and let him shoot me, I would say, ‘Everybody attack’… ‘He may shoot me, but he can’t get us all.'” (RELATED: Carson On Oregon Tragedy: ‘I Would Not Just Stand There And Let Him Shoot Me’ [VIDEO])

In the wake of that shooting at Umpqua Community College, Carson has been advocating for an expanded focus on mental health issues.

Monday on Facebook, he posted, “There is no doubt that this senseless bloodshed is breathtaking – but I never saw a body with a bullet hole that was more devastating than taking the right to arm ourselves away.”
