The Left’s Attacks On Carly Fiorina Prove She’s Having An Impact

At the CNN debate, Carly Fiorina spoke with a lump in her throat as she described Planned Parenthood’s barbarism and her rhetoric was as impactful as it was memorable. Now, conservatives and “pro-life” Republicans should be rallying around her in calling for the end of federal funding for the organization. Instead, many are being misled by the left’s fiendish and frenzied campaign to discredit her.

Carly recounted a scene from the tenth video released by the Center for Medical Progress of Planned Parenthood employees: “I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama to watch these tapes. Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its leg kicking while someone says, ‘We have to keep it alive to harvest its brain.’ This is about the character of our nation, and if we will not stand up and force President Obama to veto this bill, shame on us.” As Jonah Goldberg points out, Carly’s off-the-cuff account is a quite accurate narration of a scene where an eyewitness description accompanied footage of a fetus dying in a metal bowl with its leg kicking.

The effect of Carly’s words on the stage, on the audience, and on the entire debate was palpable. How would the left respond to this watershed moment in our national narrative?

With denial and attacks.

First a trickle, then a flood of left-wing writers and publications featured articles that flat-out denied the validity of Carly’s description of the videos, each hoping the American public would dutifully accept their word and not do the research themselves. Eric Ferraro, a spokesman for the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said, “There is no polite way to say this: Carly Fiorina is lying.”

Do you know what Mr. Ferraro’s response demonstrates? Fear. Fear of Carly. They’re scared of a candidate that can articulate an image and an issue that powerful – because if she can undermine their ability to maintain unrestricted federal support for Planned Parenthood, what else can she do? When Carly ripped back the veil of denial and uncovered Planned Parenthood for what it is, the left responded with savage attacks on her character in an effort to distract from the organization’s indefensible, brutal practice.  

Today’s Democratic Party leaders would rather terminate the conversation than cultivate discussion or varied perspectives. There is no space for open-mindedness. There is no tolerance for intellectual honesty or moral clarity on this issue, no matter how extreme the planks of their party platform.

The left may act like they’re still crafting the public narrative, but here’s the new reality, thanks to Carly: The media did exactly what Carly intended — they covered the Planned Parenthood videos again. Approximately 23 million Americans were informed of the horrors that are being performed by that federally funded group.

Now it’s our turn. Conservatives need to urge the media to give Planned Parenthood serious scrutiny and urge the general public to become informed. As Carly says, the content of these videos should make us uncomfortable. The fight to defund Planned Parenthood isn’t just a partisan game, it is about the character of our nation.

Every day, Carly is advancing the cause. In South Carolina last week, the New York Times reported Carly visited a Christian pregnancy center in Spartanburg. She was able to get coverage from about twenty media outlets on her visit to a facility dedicated to abortion alternatives. The Times recorded her as saying, “Liberals and progressives will spend inordinate amounts of time and money protecting fish, frogs and flies. But they do not think a 17-week-old, a 20-week-old, a 24-week-old is worth saving. This, ladies and gentlemen, is hypocrisy, and it goes to the core of the character of our nation.”

Now we must do our part. We need to boost Carly’s momentum, illuminating this dark corner of the American conscience. Today, the pro-life movement is ennobled and strengthened. Carly is a remarkable candidate with a remarkable ability to explain and communicate conservative positions that people can understand, relate to and support. We need her help in the days to come and she needs our help right now. So please join me in supporting Carly Fiorina for president.
