Former Texas A&M wide receiver Thomas Johnson was arrested Monday for allegedly murdering a Dallas jogger.

According to witnesses, Johnson struck the victim six or seven times with a “large-edged weapon” that several described as a machete.

“It appears that Mr. Johnson picked this victim at random. It’s absolutely random,” Dallas Deputy Deputy Chief Rob Sherwin told reporters. “He just attacked him. He told our homicide detectives that he was angry about a situation and he just picked somebody to murder. I believe there’s more to that story. It’s just very unusual. It’s quite shocking.”

Johnson played one season (2012) in College Station for the Aggies.
