The ratings are in for CNN’s Democratic debate, and they aren’t great.

According to Nielsen’s initial ratings, the first Democratic primary debate in nearly eight years drew in 9.2 million viewers. For comparison, last month’s CNN Republican debate pulled in 23 million Americans, and 24 million tuned in to watch the August GOP debate on Fox News. CNN Washington Bureau Chief Sam Feist had previously said that “viewership for the first two GOP debates was an anomaly in a highly unusual Republican nomination cycle” and told America to “expect the audience to be significantly smaller” for Tuesday night’s event. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the initial 9.2 million reported viewers, “culled from the 25 metered markets measured by Nielsen, will change (and they may actually rise) when final numbers are tallied later today.”
