A 16-year-old high school junior is being held in police custody after allegedly stabbing his father during an argument Monday night.

According to Sugarland Police (TX), the argument began when the son, a student at Clements High School, told his father he was considering quitting football when asked why he had been skipping practices.

“There’s definitely quite a bit of tension, a lot of conflict between the boy and his father,” a police spokesman told KHOU.com.

The suspect is being held at Fort Bend County Juvenile Detention Center and is reportedly refusing to cooperate with investigators. He is currently facing an assault with a deadly weapon charge but could be slapped with murder if his father does not recover from his injuries.
