Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid — who was the first overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft — is going to miss a lot of playing time after taking an absolutely brutal hit into the boards.

McDavid was taken down into the boards by Flyers players Brent Manning and Michael Del Zotto during the Tuesday night game against the Philadelphia team. McDavid got up, but was clearly shaken and in pain.

Oilers head coach Todd McLellan said after the game, “He’s got an upper-body injury that is going to keep him out long term. It was a hockey play, he went to the net hard like he always does, he comes off that wing with a lot of speed. Three guys got tangled up in the corner. It was a hockey play.”

McDavid had 12 points through the first 12 games of the season for the Oilers.
