Ben Carson’s presidential campaign is exploring the idea of the Republican taking an overseas trip before the Iowa caucuses to help allay concerns about his lack of foreign policy experience.
According to CBS News, which first reported details about the possible trip, “Asia and Africa have been mentioned in internal discussions, as has Australia, where he worked as a neurosurgeon in 1983.”
Citing a campaign aide, CBS said Carson and his advisers are “looking at ways to own news cycles, acknowledging that the recent focus on national security has hurt him in the polls. An overseas trip could burnish his foreign policy credentials, the official said.”
Carson has slipped in some polls since the terrorist attacks in Paris this month and the renewed focus on national security.
