The “Morning Joe” panel ripped into Time magazine for selecting German Chancellor Angela Merkel instead of Donald Trump as its “Person of the Year,” insisting the magazine was “petrified to speak the truth.”
Thursday on the MSNBC morning show, both hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough explained that Time was too “scared” to select Trump. (RELATED: Trump Not Happy About Time’s ‘Person Of The Year’ Choice)
“They were scared,” Scarborough said. “They were petrified to actually speak the truth. Which is somebody that they loathe, somebody they have contempt for, somebody that they don’t understand … but Donald Trump has shaped American politics, the American debate, American culture, moreso than any single figure since Barack Obama in 2008. There is no parallel.”
Brzezinski also said that Time was “just wrong and they were scared.”
Panelist Willie Geist said, “Not liking him is not suppose to be part of the criteria. There are a lot of people who have been Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ that you don’t like or perhaps are even evil. I’m not saying Donald Trump is, but they’ve done much worse than Donald Trump. I think maybe it was a decision to, a high-minded decision to say, we’re not going to be a part of it.”
