Only 17% Of Americans Have A Favorable View Of Islam

Fortunately for CAIR, most of that 17 percent is employed in newsrooms. The rest hang out on Disqus all day.

Peter Moore, YouGov:

YouGov/HuffPost’s latest research shows that most Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Islam. 58% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Islam, and just over a third (35%) say that they have a ‘very unfavorable’ opinion of the religion. Only 17% of Americans view it positively. Democrats (27%) are the most likely to have a favorable opinion of Islam, but even they tend to say that they view Islam negatively. Among independents (58%) and Republicans (75%) most people have a negative view of Islam.

Guess they’re all just racists.

Or maybe Islam has a public-relations problem? It’s not much fun when the only two times your religion shows up in the news are:

  1. When your co-religionists murder people
  2. When liberals wring their hands about a backlash that never comes, equating verbal “attacks” and cowardly acts of intimidation with actual murder

Eventually, as this pattern repeats itself over and over and over again, people start to get sick of it.

If you’re a peaceful Muslim and somebody looks at you funny or says something cruel after an attack by Islamic terrorists, well, that sucks. People shouldn’t do that. It’s bigoted and wrong. You’re not responsible for the actions of people you’ve never even met.

But you’re not a victim. The people who were murdered are the victims. Whatever bad feelings you might be feeling, whatever irritation or fear or depression you might be experiencing, it’s nothing compared to the pain and terror the victims felt and the anguish the survivors are going through now.

So please stop comparing the two.

Stop whining. Tough it out. Be a Muslim and an American.

You can do both, right?
