Cyndi Lauper is speaking out after Donald Trump proposed a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country.

During the Billie Jean King Leadership Gala this week, the 62-year-old singer said religion and murder are not mutually exclusive.

“I’m sorry that their religion got kidnapped,” Lauper said. “People who murder, they’re not religious. They just murder people. You can say it was God. Everybody blames God for everything.”

The singer said there were other things happening in the country that deserve people’s attention.

“There’s a lot more going on in the world, and especially in our country, than that right now,” Lauper added. “But right now that’s all you read about.”
