An explosion occurred in the embassy district of Afghanistan’s capital in conjunction with a Taliban assault on the Spanish embassy Friday, say reports.

The Taliban claim responsibility for a car bomb that went off outside the Spanish embassy in Kabul. An eyewitness reports to TOLO news there are several wounded embassy officials and Taliban insurgents are inside the embassy building. Two embassy guards are reported dead. Afghan special forces and other emergency officials are reportedly on the scene.

WATCH:

The attacks follow a Taliban attack on Kandahar airport earlier this week. The suicide assault squad tactics utilized by the Taliban in Kandahar appear to mirror the attacks on the embassy today. (RELATED: Taliban Strikes Back: Massive Attack On Afghan Airport Leaves 37 Dead)
