Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan suggested that if Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination, some “establishment” Republicans may decide to run third party.

Appearing on ABC’s “The View” on Friday, Noonan commented on the possibility of a contested Republican Convention and downplayed the argument that Trump would run third party.

Noonan explained that “the big establishment Republicans in Washington actually got together the other night to figure out what do we do if this goes to the floor of the convention.”

“What will that look like? How do we play that? I mean, it’s really interesting. Everybody thinks if Mr. Trump doesn’t get the nomination, he might go third party,” Noonan suggested. “I’ll throw out an idea. What if Mr. Trump gets the nomination? Then I think some Republicans might decide, do we need a third party?”

Later in the segment, Noonan argued, “We were talking before we went on. Some very smart person here said, ‘Look, if it were … Mrs. Clinton versus Mr. Trump, wouldn’t that be in a moment of crisis two highly dramatic and polarizing figures going up against each other at the same time?’ I think it would be. She is every bit as polarizing as he is.”
