The NRA announced Wednesday that it will not participate in President Obama’s nationally televised town hall on gun control in Virginia.

“The National Rifle Association sees no reason to participate in a public relations spectacle organized by the White House,” NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandum told CNN Wednesday. (VIDEO: Obama Cries Talking About Newtown Shooting)

The announcement comes only a day after the NRA called President Obama’s executive action on guns “political rhetoric” that doesn’t offer “meaningful solutions to our nation’s pressing problems.” (RELATED: NRA — ‘We Will Not Allow Law Abiding Citizens To Become Scapegoats’)

“The American people do not need more emotional, condescending lectures that are completely devoid of facts,” added NRA spokesman Chris Cox.

Despite the NRA’s proclamation, CNN — who will moderate the Thursday town hall — claims they, not the White House, originally proposed the idea to hold a firearm-centric debate.
