A Philadelphia police officer was ambushed by a man wearing “Muslim garb” and attempting to execute him at point-blank range, Thursday night.
Video footage reportedly shows Edward Archer firing 13 rounds at Officer Jesse Hartnett. Archer began firing at Hartnett from across the the street, closing in on him as he continued to fire. In a matter of seconds, Archer had his gun inside the window of Hartnett’s police cruiser. Amazingly, Hartnett survived, calling in the shooting and returning fire on his radio saying “shots fired! I’m shot! I’m bleeding heavily!”
Hartnett was able to wound Archer in the butt.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Ross confirmed during a press conference this afternoon that the firearm used by Archer was a police firearm stolen in 2013.
“When you look at the video, this is one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen,” Ross told CBS Philly. “This guy tried to execute the police officer. The police officer had no idea he was coming. It’s amazing he’s alive.”
Archer was caught shortly after attempting to escape. He made a full confession to the attack, saying he did in the name of Islam.
Officer Hartnett took three shots to the left arm, and was rushed to surgery last night. According to reports, the injuries to his arm are serious, but his condition is currently stable.
