President Barack Obama failed to mention the sailors held by Iran during his final State of the Union Tuesday night.

Just hours before Obama gave his address, Iranian forces seized two U.S. Navy boats carrying 10 sailors. The sailors were traveling in the Persian gulf from Kuwait to Bahrain when Iranian Republican Guard Corps (IRGC) forces seized the vessels. Iran has claimed that the sailors will soon be released. Obama gave his address a few hours after the news on the fate of the sailors broke, failing to mention them before, during or after his speech.

What the president did mention was what he believes is the success of last year’s Iran nuclear deal.

“That’s why we built a global coalition, with sanctions and principled diplomacy, to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran.  As we speak, Iran has rolled back its nuclear program, shipped out its uranium stockpile, and the world has avoided another war,” he said.

Aside from seizing the two ships, Iran has tested two ballistic missiles, ingratiated itself in Syria by supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad and denied Tuesday it has followed through on a key provision in the nuclear deal by dismantling the core of a nuclear reactor. Shortly after the State of the Union address, CNN reported that Iran was supposedly going to release the sailors at dawn. As of the writing of this article, dawn has come and gone in Iran and the sailors have yet to be released.
