Speaking at a Friday press conference, Mayor Muriel Bowser warned the residents in the Washington, D.C. metro-area to be prepared for the appearance of “thunder snow” during the upcoming blizzard.

“We have begun to fully deploy our resources,” Bowser noted. “We’ve just been briefed by the National Weather Service,” that the district will be hit with “snow all day, all night and all day Saturday.”

“The snow we anticipate will be wet and heavy,” she continued. “We believe that we will see wind pick up throughout the day, in fact, our forecasters are calling for ‘thunder snow’ throughout parts of the storm.”

“I want to be very clear with everybody. We see this as a major storm. It has life or death implications, and the whole District of Columbia should treat it that way.”
