Mercer University basketball’s Jibri Bryan passed away after being shot in Macon, Georgia Tuesday.

According to ESPN, the sixth year senior was shot in the head while waiting in the driver’s seat of his car outside a Macon convenience store.

Mercer head coach Bob Hoffman released the following statement after hearing the news of Bryan’s death:

Jibri Bryan was a special young man who was a great contributor to our team and did everything that was asked of him. He was important to us in every way. I loved him and cared about him from the very first time he was on our campus. We grew to be very close over the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his special family.

Mercer president William Underwood also extended his “thoughts and prayers” to Bryan’s family.
