MANCHESTER, N.H. — A lunatic protester learned not to mess with a pack of exhausted reporters the hard way Tuesday.

As Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore] slowly made his way through a crowd of journalists just outside the Red Arrow Diner, one man began shouting obscenities at the presidential candidate.

“Cruz, you’re a shitbag!” the protester screamed.

That was more than enough for Fox News reporter Doug McKelway — whose ear was closest to the out of control heckler. McKelway promptly planted an elbow into the protestor’s gut and told him the reporters were trying to listen to the Texas senator.

After McKelway turned back around, and strained to listen to the distant Cruz, the man began to kick and shove him. The Fox News reporter — who easily had a foot on the activist — whipped around and gave the wise guy a death stare.

Clearly nervous about his chances, the protester tried to wander away from the scrum, but McKelway wasn’t done with him just yet. The veteran journalist walked after the wild man and told him again that the journalists had a job to do, and his profane screaming was making that difficult.

Cruz was making a last minute stop during Tuesday’s first in the nation primary.

Several Daily Caller reporters congratulated McKelway on his heroism.
