Former President Bill Clinton told a crowd in Greenville, SC Tuesday that the San Bernardino shooters had never been to the Middle East.

“Keep in mind, the people that perpetrated that travesty in San Bernardino had never been to the Middle East,” Clinton told the crowd at the West End Community Development Center. “They were converted over the social media.”

Unfortunately for Clinton, both of the San Bernardino shooters — Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik — visited the Middle East. Prior to their marriage Farook traveled to Saudi Arabia after the pair first began corresponding online. Shortly after, the pair was married and returned to the United States, where they lived for approximately one year before murdering 14 people at San Bernardino’s Inland Regional Center.

A Clinton spokesman provided the Blaze with the following statement claiming the former president “simply misspoke.”

President Clinton simply misspoke. His point, though, was that they were converted over the social media. So we have a world where we’ve got to make more partners and fewer enemies. That we’ve got to win the argument for what a civilized world looks like.
