DETROIT — Hundreds of people from various organizations protested ahead of Fox News’s Republican debate Thursday.
Outside of the Fox Theatre, protesters withstood the cold and snow hours before the four remaining Republican candidates squared off in the first GOP debate after Super Tuesday.
Most were protesting front-runner Donald Trump’s “racist rhetoric,” the Flint water crisis, or for raising the minimum wage to $15. Among the sponsors of protests were the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) — who apparently bused protesters to the venue — and the National Action Network, among others.
Protesters were also calling for the firing and imprisonment of Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder in light of the Flint water crisis.
“Hey, hey, ho, ho, the governor has got to go,” protesters chanted. Many signs read: “Flint Lives Matter.”
One sign held by a National Action Network protester from Detroit who wished to remain anonymous, read: “Where the Republicans deny black, Latino & Arab kids fresh drinking water, education, & the police murder them. This is the real Michigan. The birthplace of hate.”
“I’m tired of this mess,” the protester told The Daily Caller, adding Snyder should resign and be thrown in prison.
