CNN’s Dana Bash politely chuckled at Bernie Sanders’ assertion that he will take his candidacy all the way to the Democratic convention in July.

“Does that pledge hold even if Secretary Clinton reaches the 2,083 delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination before that?” she asked Sanders.

“Dana, when I started this campaign, I was at 3 percent in the polls, 3 percent,” Sanders explained. “We have made enormous progress over the last ten months. We have now 5 million individual contributions, campaign contributions.”

“We are going to stay in this campaign to the convention in July,” he continued. “Every state has the right to vote for the candidate of their choice.”

“But Senator,” Bash interjected, “will you do that even if Secretary Clinton gets the number of delegates needed in the contests before the convention?”

“Dana, you are speculating,” Sanders retorted. “I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think that we have a lot of strength in very large states all across this country.”

“You just speculated that you’re going to win those contests, but I’ll let you go on that one,” Bash responded with a grin on her face.
