Israeli Police have confirmed a U.S. tourist has been killed and at least six others have been wounded in a knife attack by a Palestinian terrorist in the Israeli port town of Jaffa Tuesday, just as Vice President Biden began his visit to the country.

The 22-year-old Palestinian stabbed three people at the port then ran toward a nearby restaurant and proceeded to attack four more people before being shot dead by local police. The stabbing is one of a series of terrorist attacks that occurred in Israel Tuesday.

A shooting in Jerusalem just hours before the Jaffa attack injured two Israeli border police, with the assailant, Fouad Tamimi, being shot down shortly after. One of the officers is currently in critical condition. A separate attack in a Jerusalem liquor store left one man wounded, however the man was able to remove the knife from his body and kill the Palestinian attacker with it. Another knife attack in the city of Tel Aviv left an Orthodox Jewish man with several wounds to the upper body.

Biden met with former Israeli President Shimon Peres in Jaffa less than a mile away and around the same time the attacks occurred. According the reports from Israel’s Haaretz newspaper, Biden found out about the attack during the meeting and became outraged, promising a public condemnation from the U.S. government. Biden allegedly did not know the victim was American at the time.

“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the brutal attack which occurred in Jaffa. there is no justification for such acts of terror,” said Biden. He also offered his condolences to the family of the murdered American and those injured in the attacks.

In response to the string of terror attacks, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are set to close off the towns of Zawia and Auja, where the attackers are supposedly from, in the West Bank territory.

Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, based in the Gaza Strip, has praised the attacks, urging others to join the “struggle of the Palestinians youths who choose to go and carry out attacks at the heart of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.”
