Astounding accounts from Brussels terrorist attack eyewitnesses are pouring in.

“It was a horror,” a man working at the airport when the two explosions occurred told The Daily Mail. “I saw at least seven people dead. There was blood. People had lost legs. You could see their bodies but no legs.”

The Tuesday attacks have left at least 31 people dead.

U.S. executive Brian Carroll heard about the explosions at the airport when he headed for the metro in Brussels later that morning. The thought crossed his mind that it “might not be the best idea” to risk a trip to the city center, he told the Financial Times, but he decided to head out anyways. “What were the chances?” he thought.

Carroll hopped on the metro as the third explosion ripped through the Maalbeek metro station he was headed for. “As we were entering Maalbeek, there were multiple explosions, the lights went out and the train kind of glided,” he told the Financial Times. “As soon as it happened, we all went to the ground. People were crying and screaming.”

Another man from Belgium described what he saw at the airport from two or three stories above the blasts. ‘The bomb was coming from downstairs,” he told the Daily Mail. “It was going up through the roof. It was big.”

“I didn’t see anything,” he added. “Everything was coming down. Glassware. It was chaos it was unbelievable. It was the worst thing.”

“Everywhere there were bodies with no head,” a man told Politico’s Giulia Paravicini. “There was a woman screaming while she was holding her baby and she screamed ‘Where is my baby?’ I told her she was holding her child but she said she had one other that she couldn’t find.”

The man’s friend screamed at him not to go up to the third floor of the airport because of all the dead people there. “There was blood flooding on the floors,” he told Paravicini. “I tried to help out, this is why I am covered up in blood.”

“I saw blood everywhere,” another man who works at a cafe inside the airport told Paravicini. “I saw blood everywhere, there was a man whose chest was completely open he had no more legs.”

One witness tweeted about visibly upset people exiting the metro station where the third blast happened. “One clearly distressed and angry commuter shouted at the hacks (journalists) ‘You have no idea what’s down there,'” he tweeted. “‘Bodies…’ before storming off.”
