Senate Minority Leader [crscore]Harry Reid[/crscore] said Wednesday that Democrats shouldn’t underestimate Donald Trump as he is one of the “most unorthodox” candidates in modern history.
“Never, ever, ever underestimate Trump. No one should do that. I tried, others have tried. He’s a hard guy to predict,” Reid told Politico.
The answer came in response to question about whether Trump would be able to compete in states most Republicans wouldn’t have a chance, specifically the Rust Belt.
Reid went on to tell the Virginia-based leaflet Trump is, “One of the most unorthodox candidates for the presidency in modern times. Certainly in modern times, post-modern times. A real unusual deal we have here.”
While Reid has previously said that he respects Texas Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore], he said Wednesday that it wouldn’t matter for Democrats whether they faced Cruz or Trump in the fall.
“You have one who has been plotting to be president for six or seven months. That’s Trump. You have Cruz, who has been plotting to be president since he was in elementary school,” Reid said.
