A 14-year-old girl who was gang raped received 2,645 pounds of wheat after the case was settled in a tribal agreement.

The girl’s brother first reported the case to police March 21 and the main suspect was detained, the Times of India reports. The victim’s father was forced to take the case to a jirga trial where tribal elders meet to settle disputes. Jirga trials are outlawed in Pakistan, but remain common in certain areas of the country.

A local “influential landlord” decided on the 1,200 kilogram (approximately 2,645 pounds) wheat compensation. The family received death threats from locals after they rejected the ruling. They are currently under police protection.

The Indian market value of the compensation is roughly $653, according to the latest available data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
