MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski started off Tuesday’s show with a diatribe against Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore]’s “fingernails on a chalkboard” voice after he refused to wear a “cheesehead” hat that one of his daughters gave to him.

While touring a cheese factory in Wisconsin on Monday, Cruz’s daughter attempted to put a cheesehead on her father’s head, but the Texas senator promptly took it off. When a reporter asked Cruz if he would wear a cheesehead, the candidate replied, “No. My girls will. … There is an ironclad rule of politics, which is no funny hats. And any hat by definition is defined as a funny hat. Michael Dukakis demonstrated it when he put on a helmet and rode in a tank. So I will cheer the hats on others.”

At the start of their show, co-host Joe Scarborough commented that Cruz’s response was “Shakespearean” before Brzezinski began to share her feelings. “I just don’t know what I want to happen there,” she said. “It’s just all so awful.”

Politico’s executive editor Jim VandeHei, who is from Wisconsin, said you “look like a dope” when you wear a cheesehead, promoting Brzezinski to say that Cruz “doesn’t need the cheesehead hat to do that.”

Brzezinski later said, “It’s just Ted Cruz and his delivery — I’m sorry. I can’t stand it. You guys all can’t stand it. I’m sorry.”

“It’s all so unbelievably disingenuous,” Brzezinski added.

“Is that how he talks at the family dinner table?” Brzezinski later wondered.

Panelist Nicolle Wallace later added, “You’ve heard him read a child’s fairy tale. I mean, my God. I don’t know how those kids sleep.” (WATCH: Ted Cruz Parodies Himself And Mocks Democrats In Hilarious New Campaign Ad)

Brzezinski then said watching Cruz was like “watching a slow motion car-wreck.”

When Scarborough then tried to deliver the show’s official introduction, Brzezinski cut in and said, “No, it’s true. I’m saying what you’re all thinking. His delivery, it like makes your skin crawl. Fingernails on a chalkboard.”

At the top of the next hour of the show, when MSNBC host Andrea Mitchel was a panelist, and told Brzezinski that it was in fact one of Cruz’s daughter who attempted to put the cheesehead on his head. Again went off on Cruz’s voice and the interaction claiming it was “terrible,” as reported by TheBlaze.

After learning that Cruz’s daughter attempted to put the cheesehead on her father Brzezinski said, “Who doesn’t put a cheesehead hat on for their daughter?”

Mitchel answered that “a candidate” and fellow panelist and Bloomberg Politics managing editor Mark Halperin suggested, “Oh my God, he would lose the primary if he put that on… It’s better to give her a lecture on Michael Dukakis.”

Halperin later claimed it “was the best judgment Ted Cruz has shown to date not putting that thing on, he would lose the primary.”

Brzezinski then commented on Cruz’s lack of wearing the cheesehead hat for his daughter suggesting that Cruz “could crouch down and put it on just for her and say, ‘Daddy is going to wear this just for you but I got to take it off now because I’m in politics and people are mean.'”
