Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards inadvertently drew attention to her organization’s practice of selling fetal parts for research on Monday when she attacked Texas Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore] during a Hillary Clinton campaign rally.

“A woman voting for Ted Cruz is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders,” Richards said at a rally in Manhattan.

Colonel Sanders was the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, the fast food chain that sells chicken breasts, thighs, wings and other parts to millions of customers around the world.

Planned Parenthood has recently come under congressional scrutiny after some of the organization’s doctors and administrators were filmed discussing the sale of fetal tissue and parts to undercover reporters posing as researchers.

Cruz has called Planned Parenthood a “criminal enterprise.” He has also pledged to investigate the group if he’s elected president.

Richards has used the chicken joke before to criticize Republicans she claims will prevent women from obtaining abortions. In 2008 she made the claim about then-GOP nominee [crscore]John McCain[/crscore].

On Monday, Richards attributed the joke to her mother, former Texas Gov. Ann Richards. But according to the fact check website Snopes, the joke has been around for decades. The line was frequently used in the 1980s to claim that Ronald Reagan was an opponent of the working class.
