For the first time in the history of Black Entertainment Television a white performer has landed a series on the channel.

BET announced Wednesday that Gary Owen, a white comedian, will have a reality show — “Gary Owen Family” — as part of their 2016-2017 lineup of shows.

“This is the new face of the American family,” Owen said when the show was announced Wednesday. “I feel like Ben Carson at the GOP debate,” he added.

According to People, “the show will follow the antics of his culturally blended family, as his wife is black and their children are interracial.”

This will not be the first time the comedian has appeared on the network.

“He’s also hosted BET’s Comic View, the only white comedian to have done so,” Jezebel noted.

“Somehow, maybe because his jokes seem to lean more appreciative than offensive, black people have embraced him and BET noticed,” the Jezebel writer5000434 concluded.
