President Barack Obama says he and Michelle join millions of fans worldwide in mourning the death of the “electrifying performer” Prince Thursday..

The statement from the president followed news that the 57-year-old pop singer had died at his home in Minnesota.

“Few artists have influenced the sound and trajectory of popular music more distinctly, or touched quite so many people with their talent,” the statement read. “Prince did it all. Funk, R & B, Rock and Roll. He was a virtuoso, a brilliant leader, and an electrifying performer.”

The president is reportedly a huge fan of the legendary performer “and even got Prince to play a top-secret show at the White House last summer for 500 people,” TMZ reported. “An Obama staffer called the event “a private party for friends and family.”
