Texas Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore] claimed Monday that his pact with Ohio Gov. John Kasich is in fact “entirely about the will of the people.”

The Kasich and Cruz campaigns announced Sunday night that they will be clearing the path for each other in upcoming states in an effort to deny Donald Trump the necessary delegates to win the Republican nomination.

“This is entirely about the will of the people, ” Cruz told reporters. “This is about winning the votes of the Hoosier State, giving Indiana the opportunity to choose.”

Cruz is polling far ahead of Kasich in Indiana.

Despite the agreement, Kasich told supporters in Indiana Monday that they should still vote for him.

“I’ve never told them not to vote for me. They ought to vote for me.”

“I’m not going to spend resources in Indiana, [Cruz is] not going to spend resources in other places. So what? What’s the big deal? What’s wrong with that? I’m not campaigning in Indiana and he’s not campaigning in those other states. That’s all,” Kasich added.

The Ohio governor even claimed that he was running “the people’s campaign.”

Kasich said,  “I don’t have, like, Daddy Warbucks behind me giving all this money. I have to be careful about my resources.”

“You ought to feel god about it. My campaign is like the people’s campaign,” Kasich told reporters.
