Anthony Weiner resigned from Congress in disgrace after he sent pictures of his penis to women who weren’t his wife and then tried to blame his critics for it. A couple of years later, in a bid to rehabilitate his political career, Weiner decided to run for mayor of New York City. The plan was that, win or lose, he would prove his mettle as a serious-minded man of the people. He would make everyone forget his past transgressions. He would take the “wiener” out of “Weiner.”
And it was wonderful.
I have no idea why Weiner thought it was a good idea to have a documentary crew follow him around during his mayoral campaign. I have no idea why he does any of the things he does. But I’m so glad this exists, and soon we’ll all be able to experience it:
After watching this trailer, I’m starting to wonder if this whole thing wasn’t set up years in advance by Christopher Guest. They might as well have called this movie Scrotal Tap.
Weiner is popping up in theaters on May 20, and then it’ll come to VOD a week later. I sincerely cannot wait.
