Game Of Thrones Stars On European Immigration Crisis: Lie Back And Think Of Westeros

ATTN Game of Thrones fans: Your assistance is needed. But first, you must put aside your own well-being.

The earnest line readings, the furrowed brows, the repetition of key phrases, the sad piano… That’s how you know these wealthy actors really care.

Maybe they feel guilty because Game of Thrones is gearing up for an invasion of Europe — er, I mean “Westeros” — by a horde of Muslims — um, make that “Dothraki.” Maybe they’re trying to make amends to the real-life designated victims for such an affront to their dignity. Or maybe these actors simply have no idea what the hell they’re reading off the TelePrompter.

Whatever the case, their effort to further exacerbate Europe’s immigration problem is not going well. Kieran Corcoran, Heat Street:

A controversial campaign by the cast of Game of Thrones to lobby governments to take in more refugees has missed a funding target by huge margin.

The PR push, an alliance between stars of the HBO series and the International Rescue Committee non-profit, hoped to amass $1 million by the season six launch on Sunday…

But as the first episode went to air, their grand total was at $264,500 – where it has been stuck for weeks.

Sounds like GoT fans know more about the issue than the actors they watch every week. The viewers are the ones who have to deal with this problem. They’re the ones on the front lines. Meanwhile, these thespians are running around pretending to be characters in a half-bright middle-schooler’s D&D campaign, and then picking up their checks and going back to their gated communities.

A lot has been made of the season 6 premiere being a “victory for feminism.” I won’t give out any spoilers, but there’s a definite “girls rule the world” vibe to the proceedings. Perhaps this is in reaction to criticism of the show’s past depictions of rape and misogyny. (Imagine that: a show in a medieval setting that actually depicts medieval behavior. Problematic!)

Which makes it particularly odd that these actors are calling for more of the same refugees who were responsible for the mass sexual assaults in Europe last New Year’s Eve. The same refugees who are making it impossible for Europeans to so much as enjoy a swim in a public pool without being harassed or even raped.

Dear Game of Thrones:

If you want us to believe you really care about women, why do you want to facilitate the mass rape of women?

Signed,
All us peasants

P.S. More to the point, actors: None of these refugees have HBO or Sky. They’re not the ones paying you so handsomely and giving you the free time to side with them against your benefactors. Show some respect.
