Most Republican voters either don’t care that Republican presidential candidate Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore] chose Carly Fiorina as his running mate, or are less likely to vote for him because of the choice, a new poll finds.

Cruz announced the pick last week in an apparent bid to boost his numbers ahead of an absolutely crucial Indiana primary Tuesday, but according to the Morning Consult poll it could hurt him as much as it helps. Only 25 percent of registered Republican voters polled said they’re now more likely to vote for him.

The rest of the Republican voters indicated they weren’t impressed by the choice. Fifty-one percent said they were unsure of their opinion or don’t care, and the other 24 percent said they’re now less likely to vote for Cruz.

The poll was conducted from April 29 to May 2, after Cruz announced his pick on the 27th.

Fiorina also ran for the Republican nomination, but endorsed Cruz in March after she dropped out of the race following a disappointing result in New Hampshire. Cruz’s unusual decision to announce her as his VP is part of a last push to stop Republican front-runner Donald Trump from winning the nomination.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said the announcement was premature in a critical tweet after the announcement. “Seems out of touch w/ reality to announce a VP nominee before securing 1237 delegates,” he tweeted, referring to the delegate threshold necessary to win the nomination.
