Bush 41 & 43 On Election 2016: Hey, Leave Us Out Of It

Whether you like it or not, it’s an unavoidable fact that the Republican Party will nominate a bright-orange wrestling manager to represent them on November 8, 2016. Now, all you can do is get on board the Trump Train or else… um… Or else stupid people will yell at you, I guess? Other than that, I don’t really see a downside to sitting this one out.

Neither do these guys. Shushannah Walshe, ABC News:

President George H.W. Bush and his son President George W. Bush have no plans to endorse Donald Trump, their spokespeople told ABC News.

“President Bush does not plan to participate in or comment on the presidential campaign,” the younger Bush’s spokesman, Freddy Ford, said.

Apparently, this is the first time in the past five elections that Bush 41 hasn’t endorsed the Republican nominee. I don’t know Dubya’s record on that count, but it seems less unusual, since he’s been keeping his nose out of these things since he left office. And I wouldn’t expect either of them to be Trump fans, after the way he slapped Jeb! around.

Now that they’ve displeased Daddy, it’s just a matter of waiting to find out how they killed JFK.

But hey, it’s actually a good thing that they’re not endorsing him. Who’s more “GOPe” (GOP establishment, in standard Trumpenclature) than those two? This proves that Trump really speaks for the common man, not the sore-loser globalist cucks in DC who…

Yeah, whatever.

While the Bush family takes a stance of Swiss-like neutrality, some Republicans are lining up to kiss Trump’s ring. Bobby Jindal is now reluctantly supporting him, after blasting the hell out of him just last September:

Whoops. Never mind!

Whereas another younger Republican, Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse, is displaying an unusual and possibly dangerous quality in any politician: integrity. He said he was #NeverTrump, and he meant it. He just posted the following to his Facebook page:

AN OPEN LETTER TO MAJORITY AMERICA

TO: Those who think both leading presidential candidates are dishonest and have little chance of leading America forward:

(…or, stated more simply)

TO: The majority of America:

Note: If you are one of those rare souls who genuinely believe Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are honorable people – if they are the role models you want for your kids – then this letter is not for you. Instead, this letter is for the majority of Americans who wonder why the nation that put a man on the moon can’t find a healthy leader who can take us forward together.

Read the whole thing. Sasse talked to people in a Fremont, NE Walmart — y’know, the sort of working-class Americans we’re supposed to believe are now represented by a reality-show “billionaire” who looks like a radioactive Cheeto — and listened to their despair at being told to choose between a crook and a kook.* He uses this as a springboard to go off on the two-party system itself. Money quote:

If you ask Americans if they identify as Democrat or Republican, almost half of the nation interrupts to say: “Neither.”

Yep. If you had asked me a week ago, I would’ve said, “Yeah, I’m a Republican, I guess. They suck, but at least they’re not the Democrats.” Now, I can’t even say that much about them.

I really like this Sasse dude:

Maybe I’ll write him in next November…

*I’ll let you decide which one is which.

P.S. #TrumpTrain #MAGA

P.P.S. Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
