Christian organizations claim 88 percent of Christian refugees in German asylum centers have been harassed verbally or physically by their Muslim counterparts.

A report compiled by six German nongovernmental organizations documents 200 cases of attacks, ranging from verbal threats to sexual assaults. The non-governmental organizations estimate as many as 40,000 Christian refugees have been affected.

“This is only the tip of the iceberg,” Marcus Rode, spokesman for Open Doors Germany, said at a press conference Monday.

Out of 231 Christian refugees interviewed in the report, 88 percent said they have been targeted because of their religious beliefs. (RELATED: Hundreds Of Muslim Refugees In Germany Convert To Christianity)

Forty-two percent reported insults, 37 percent said they suffered physical injury and 32 percent have received death threats.

“Our political leaders have not taken appropriate measures to protect the Christian minority,” Open Doors said in a statement. “The impression that this dramatic development is being suppressed and ignored has solidified.”

A Protestant minister from Berlin told Deutsche Welle a common reason for attacks is when Christians refuse to take part in Muslim prayers.

Almost half of interviewed refugees claim asylum center guards take part in discrimination against religious minorities.
