A 22-year-old in Colombia partied like a rock star when he faked his own kidnapping to get a $2,300 ransom from his parents.

Over the course of a month, Humberto Salcedo Ortega blew 7,000,000 Colombian Pesos (worth just over $2,300) he extorted from his parents by pretending he was kidnapped on drugs, a whole bunch of booze, and prostitutes. These expensive habits caught up with the man, so he again asked his parents via forged ransom note for a further 5,000,000 Colombian Pesos (worth just over $1,600).

Salcedo Ortega reportedly even got himself beaten up so his friends could take photos as “proof” of the kidnapping.

After Salcedo Ortega asked for a second ransom payment, his parents called the authorities, who tracked him down to Bogota and discovered he had faked his own kidnapping, according to Caracol Radio.

The cops promptly threw the man into the country’s infamous Modelo Prison once his scheme was figured out. The two friends who took Salcedo Oretga’s “ransom” pictures were not charged with any wrongdoing.

The 22-year-old’s father reportedly regretted accidentally turning in his son to police, but genuinely believed that he had been kidnapped. The young man could be imprisoned for 30 years on a charge of aggravated extortion, according to Colombia Reports.
