John Berry — Original ‘Beastie Boys’ Member — Dead At 52

John Berry died Thursday morning after suffering from frontal lobe dementia. He was 52.

Berry — an original member of the hip-hop group — died while in hospice care in Danvers, Mass., his father confirmed to Rolling Stone. (RELATED: Remembering Prince: These Are His Greatest Hits)

Though Berry left the “Beastie Boys” in 1982, he was credited with coming up with the band’s name. They got their start in 1978 as the “Young Aborigines,” but later switched their name to “Beastie Boys.”

Berry’s name was mentioned when the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
