Nick Menza collapsed on stage while performing and has died at 51 years old.

The former drummer of the metal band Megadeth was performing Saturday night with his current band, OHM, at a show in Los Angeles when he collapsed, according to Entertainment Weekly.

A spokesperson for his family posted on the drummer’s Facebook page. “He died last night doing what he loved,” J. Marshall Craig wrote.

Menza was a part of some of Megadeth’s biggest albums. One of his former band members and guitarist Marty Friedman wrote a goodbye to his friend on his Facebook page after learning the news.

“We all know the great and unique drummer that Nick Menza was, but he was also a trustworthy friend, a hilarious bandmate, as well as a very loving dad,” he wrote. “I’m beyond sad, did not see this coming at all. RIP Brother.”

The frontman of his former band, Dave Mustaine, took to Twitter after hearing the news. “TELL ME THIS ISN’T TRUE,” he tweeted. “I woke at 4 AM to hear Nick Menza passed away on 5/21 playing his drums w/Ohm at the Baked Potato. #nickmenzarip.”
