Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump says Alabama Sen. [crscore]Jeff Sessions[/crscore] is “certainly is somebody that I would consider” as his running mate.

At a Trump Tower press conference on Tuesday, The Daily Caller’s Kerry Picket asked Trump about Sessions’ recent comments that he’s open to serving as vice president. Sessions was the first senator to endorse Trump’s candidacy during the primary.

Asked if he’s had any conversations with Sessions about vice president, Trump said: “Jeff Sessions is a fantastic man. Jeff Sessions is one of the most highly respected people in the United States Senate.”

Said Trump: “You know, Jeff Sessions has never endorsed a presidential candidate before, as many years as he’s been in the Senate. So Jeff Sessions certainly is somebody that I would consider, absolutely. He’s a fantastic person.”

During an interview with TheDC in his office Friday, Sessions was asked about being Trump’s running mate and said: “If I could help him in some way — and he were to ask me — I would consider it like any other citizen should.”

“Can I help? Can I help the country do better if I accepted or not? But I don’t expect that to happen. And I’ve certainly had no discussions with him about it,” Sessions said.

Trump has repeatedly said he would like to pick a “political person” who could help him govern and get legislation passed. Last week, Trump’s campaign manager said Trump would likely choose someone with “federal elective” experience, suggesting he would pick someone from inside the Capitol, and not a governor.
