California Gov. Jerry Brown has thrown his weight behind Democratic frontrunner former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president.

The California Democrat said it’s imperative Clinton win in November because the country faces global warming and a “new cold war.”

“For her part, Hillary Clinton has convincingly made the case that she knows how to get things done and has the tenacity and skill to advance the Democratic agenda,” Brown wrote in an open letter endorsing Clinton.

“The stakes couldn’t be higher,” he wrote. “Our country faces an existential threat from climate change and the spread of nuclear weapons. A new cold war is on the horizon. This is no time for Democrats to keep fighting each other.”

Brown’s endorsement comes as Clinton is poised to clinch the Democratic nomination. Clinton has won 2,310 delegates to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 1,542 delegates ahead of their party’s convention this summer. The former secretary of state needs 2,383 delegates to seal the nomination.

Sanders, however, has vowed to stay in the race even if Clinton gets all the delegates she needs to win the nomination.

“I think you know there’s been some discussion that some of the media is going to say the campaign is over, she is the nominee on Tuesday night after the votes come in from New Jersey — that’s not accurate,” Sanders said Monday.

Brown says the party should rally behind Clinton and focus on taking down presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. Brown says Trump is dangerous because he denies man-made global warming and wants other countries to have nuclear weapons.

“But there is more at stake than mere numbers,” he wrote. “The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has called climate change a ‘hoax’ and said he will tear up the Paris Climate Agreement. He has promised to deport millions of immigrants and ominously suggested that other countries may need the nuclear bomb. He has also pledged to pack the Supreme Court with only those who please the extreme right.”

“The general election has already begun,” Brown said. “Hillary Clinton, with her long experience, especially as Secretary of State, has a firm grasp of the issues and will be prepared to lead our country on day one.”
