The UCLA campus has been declared safe after an apparent murder-suicide left two people dead.
The UCLA said police have confirmed two adult males are dead after the Wednesday shooting. The Los Angeles Times reports that one of the dead was the shooter.
“Police confirm there was an apparent murder-suicide in Engineering IV and that the situation is now contained,” UCLA said on its website. “The campus has reopened and the lockdown is lifted. Classes are cancelled for the day and are expected to resume tomorrow.”
The Engineering IV building on South Campus was the site of the shooting. The University told students to take shelter on their website. Law enforcement responded and searched the building. Many students barricaded themselves inside classrooms.
”The campus is now safe,” Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said at a news conference.
“Police have confirmed that two people are dead in a shooting at UCLA’s Engineering IV building,” UCLA said on their website.
