Forget Uber.

Drones might become the preferred mode of personal transportation for people all across the country.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, China-based EHang Inc. will soon begin testing a passenger-carrying drones, the first system of its kind, in Nevada.

“We first met [EHang] at the International Consumer Electronics Expo in 2016,” Mark Barker, Development Director for the Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems — which is assisting with the testing — said of the project. “It caught everybody’s attention.”

Tom Wilczek, a representative for the NV Governor’s Economic Development Office also expressed excitement about working with EHang and is looking “forward to the day when drone taxis are part of Nevada’s transportation system.”

The next step for EHang is moving a team to Nevada, where they will work with the NIAS to get the prototypes cleared by the Federal Aviation Association.
