To celebrate Philippines Independence Day June 12, Facebook created a banner for users in the country to share on their profile.

The flag Facebook included in the celebratory banner inverted its red and blue colors, with the red appearing above the blue. According to Philippine law, the red should only be above the blue during a time of war.

The Philippine Star, along with commentators and users, quickly pointed out Facebook’s mistake, and the company fixed it.

Facebook acknowledged the mistake, and released a statement which included an apology via Philippine Star: “This was unintentional, and we’re sorry. We care deeply about the community in the Philippines and, in an attempt to connect people on Independence Day, we made a mistake.”
